Out with the old...

1988. 1988 was when I started my first "website". It consisted of pages of type-written text; the internet (small i) was very academic in those days. Back then, my site mainly drew on my interests in caving and Fell Walking, mixing tongue-in-cheek articles for the caving club newsletter with Travelogues - as they were called in those days - of my trips to Iceland, Greenland and other crazily cold places. I called my site Arctic Edge.

Although I was "out there" and I received regular appraisals from visitors, I lost interest in Arctic Edge. It became stale and didn't keep up with what I was actually doing. The "Information Superhighway" bypassed me and it's been a long time since I received any passing traffic; earlier this year I decided that Arctic Edge didn't really reflect my interests any more, so after around 30 years, it's been put to bed.

I've decided to "re-brand" myself simply as Yorkshire Kev, which is the name bestowed on me by the weird and wonderful (mostly weird) "southerners" who I met caving on the Mendip Hills of Somerset, in SW England. More than 3 decades on, it's nice to still be in contact with many of those people, and it's nice to still think of them as very good friends who helped forge my life, interests, character and way of thinking. I learned a lot from them, and it seems fitting that after 30 years I should take on the persona they gave me, and return to being Yorkshire Kev.

So where next? I've bought a van! A big van. And I'm having it converted into a camper so I can do all the travelling I like, go off the beaten track as and when I like, and do a bit more of the festival scene, finding good food and good people along the way. I hope you'll join me; let's see where this goes...
